Bringing back the Beach Hotel Broadbeach

End of an era for Miss Moneypenny’s and Fat Freddy’s Broadbeach as Moreton Hospitality takeover with a refurbished, rebranded and relaunched precinct.

In October 2024, business and operating partner, Anthony Moreton Group bought out Ben Walsh, Restauranteur making way for Anthony Moreton Group’s newly formed ‘Moreton Hospitality’. With a strategic shift toward an upmarket pub direction, Moreton Hospitality announces the closure and the end of an era for the award-winning Miss Moneypenny’s Broadbeach and Fat Freddy’s Sports Bar and Diner. Ushering in a new chapter, the precinct is undergoing refurbishment until the end of November. The reimagined concept is set to open two exciting new venues – The Beach Hotel Broadbeach (opening 29th November), and Cora (opening 5th December) including a private function room The Club House (opening 25th November).

“We jumped at the opportunity to refurbish the precinct and bring the vibrance back with a revitalised space and a contemporary new menu crafted for casual and shared dining experiences,” said Lance Burrows, Chief Operating Officer at Moreton Hospitality.

The Beach Hotel Broadbeach, marks a return to its roots as an authentic local pub, offering fresh, high-quality, value-focused elevated pub fare. The renovations include an extended alfresco dining area that spans the entire Surf Parade street front, designed to enhance the venue’s street presence and create a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere. These changes reflect a renewed commitment to providing an elevated pub experience, featuring beloved local amenities such as new TAB facilities, a second bar area to service the alfresco diners, wall-to-wall screens for live sports, and a VIP luxury gaming lounge.

Burrows added, “We’re excited to bring back ‘The Beach Hotel Broadbeach’ and restoring the hotel to its original name. Our goal is to reconnect with the local community and offer the quintessential pub experience—great food, drinks, live entertainment, and that unmistakable beachside vibe.”

Cora will replace Miss Moneypenny’s on the northern side of the property, introducing a unique dining experience that combines the innovation of modern Australian cuisine with the vibrant, wholesome flavours of the Mediterranean. An elevated dining experience remains central to the offering, adding meaningful value for guests. The atmosphere will shift to a more energetic, playful vibe with funk and disco elements, creating a fun, lively ambience—all while maintaining the high standard of service that guests loved, but without the premium price tag.

“We listened to our customers and the new direction reflects this, with a dynamic coastal offering to welcome locals and visitors alike. The new venue is community-centric, welcoming families with children for the first time,” said Burrows.

Moreton Hospitality is retaining all the beloved key venue staff from Miss Moneypenny’s and Fat Freddy’s, while strengthening the team with experienced corporate professionals to support the group’s expansion ambitions.

AGFG award-winning Head Chef, Tapos Singha remains at the helm, teamed up with the newly appointed General Manager Lee Thurston.

“I’m excited to steer the menu in a different direction and to bring a new dining experience to the Coast. This new elevated pub offering is yet to be seen here at Broadbeach and Cora brings a contemporary dining experience that is designed to not only delight the palate but also nourish the body,” said Singha.

At present the team operate a portfolio of assets including five bottle shops (soon to be six bottle shops) and The Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel. Plans are also afoot for a major refurbishment of the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel in 2025, to revitalise the pub, accommodation and entertainment offering.

For the month of November, and before a new era is welcomed in, all Miss Moneypenny’s and Fat Freddy’s customers are invited to come in and enjoy their menu favourites one last time. As a token of good faith, new ownership will be honouring all Miss Moneypenny’s Broadbeach Gift Vouchers and Fat Freddy’s Vouchers until their original expiry date.
